The Music
Music is an undeniably influential part of the Philmont experience. I wanted the podcast music to embody the feeling of what it means to be on Philmont staff. The confidence while hiking a new trail, the excited nerves while awaiting a letter of employment, or the giddy shakes when the Philmont mountains appear on the horizon as you drive into Cimarron.
Without hesitation, I knew of one guy in particular who could amplify and bottle that feeling. I asked Dylan McDermott to work with me to compose and record the intro and outro music for Silver On the Sage Podcast, and sure enough - it is one beautiful tune.

It was recorded on Christmas Eve Day, 2020 with the help of Jimmy Lowe on fiddle.

The outro portion includes a whisper of the familiar and beloved Philmont Hymn, written by John Westfall.

I really cannot thank Dylan enough for this song. Enjoy!
Dylan McDermott is a Philmont alumni. He worked at Beaubien (2012) and Crater Lake (2013) as a Program Counselor.
During his time at the Ranch, he deepened his love for music and storytelling through directing and performing nightly campfires. He continues to live out his passions by teaching music lessons, writing and performing music, and managing his shop - where he repairs and builds guitars and other stringed instruments.
He currently lives in Nebraska with his wife Carly (also a Philmont alumni) and their 3 boys.
